Video My day

Video my long standing sides
The prides
In as I’m on the box with smiles
Video my day and turn the mirror around
Video the head heap .. now listen to the sound

“Walking down the staircase
1950’s glasses glint in terror and lace
The bodies are piled high
The garden has overflowed
The killing, many years past, shown”.

Video my daydreams
Play it all through the night

“ .. rain cascaded in torrents
The roads are almost blocked
Sheets of water crashing down”.
The lonely motel where no one goes
His mother is reincarnate in his body
His hands grip the blade of a knife
The gaunt house upon the hill
Amplifies that all is ill
For a mother couldn’t
Couldn’t really kill!

Change the video wash out the black and white
Cream the screen, splash the colour in….

“flitting back over the throttled throats
The disgraced policeman played the gas joke
Many women became famous victims
And timothy hung in the air for the crows.

Video the backdrop
Lance the casting
Prepare the next few hours of….

“like the taut guitar string
That’s ready to snap, real things
Go bump in the night
So, shit, where’s the damn light?
You draw the stake up over your head
Ready to plunge into the coldest heart,
To seal the fate of the undead
To destroy his every part.”

“ … for a damsel so sweet so fair
What would she want of me
A creature with lop sided frame
A curled face
Deaf through living with the bells
A ghost of the monsters that live in hell
I should perish here as the fires lap
The famed hunchback shall welcome the trap”.

Try the instant replay,
Look out for the blips, the snow, the haze….

Union Flag

When common sense deserts you
Insanity becomes the norm
Lights train at the backs of your eyes
Whips uncover your veins
Letting the monster loose
Is really tying the noose
Cooking the golden goose
I let it happen
Because no one really cares
I accepted the bully
As my leader
I said I would die for them.

Travelling Inside

In space time trick of living
There are many rows of windows
With no glass that yawn despairingly
At the dancing ghosts of time
Who parade into the light and fade;
In slight movement they appear
Then as quickly they disappear,
A pleasant smile a word for the ear
Caresses space a thousand light years
Is nothing more that travelling inside,
You are the driver that wants a ride
Into the past present and future.
I am the captain of a ship looking for
A coastal paradise or beach shore
Where the sorcery of life relaxes more
For in the space time magic of life
Not all is running, pushing and strife.

Time Has Told Me

Time has told me
What I am looking for,
There is an inner peace
A natural kind of cure
To all your worries dear
To all those sorrows near,
With an ear to listening for love
We can be capable of love
We don’t want to ignore the love.

Time won’t hold me
When I go looking for love
We are trapped in – body shells
But we can travel, my love
Into other realms
By talking of our love
We can see the other side of life.

Time has told me
That there is a way forward
Through the tallest trees
To the meadows of love
We can wait in the sun
Laugh and dance and love
For we are in the spirit of love
We can now celebrate
When in the incarnate
We have nothing to fear
We are living inside a tear
That has no love this year.

At the dancing ghosts of time

To Willie

Willie Leroy Jones
The desert gas station
Blasted by sun with sand
Lifts the eye from out of the ground,
250 miles across Arizona,
They day has melted down,
Cooling tha engine while legs are stretched
Looking out across the savannahs
Wondering how wide the sky is
Why we never have the clouds visit ...
Coasting towards the sierras
Blinded by the night
Seeking our horizons wanting a brief respite,
We are near the motel
Or are those lights another dream,
The next morning
The searchers’ arms wrapped
Themselves around the car
As I sped
Head
Long
Into another session of driving –
Through breathless are diving
Through sunlight, dryness jiving
For the ache of travel
Is the ache of searching
Despite the spectacular surrounding
The greyness of not finding
Is the lead weight of expectation.
The desert high jinx swallowed me whole
The smiling spirit of the plateaus
Point a wary finger at shimmering hotel bars
My mind’s eye pierces this nonsense
As we cruise at 60 mph
As we search for the road covered in sand
As we dissect this moonscape land
As the spirit of desert puts out its huge hand
Feeling the forced of circumstance
Knowing the journey to be wise.
I’m able to ignore the reluctance,
Give out each day so much more.
We glide across Arizona
We sweep into the Texas range
For help is always around me,
Never once did I find this strange.
Listening to Chuck Berry
On the local radio
We swing across the highways
With no particular place to go?
We Jim Reeves into Huntsville
We have come
Listening we’ve always done
To the sound of distant drums.
The electric man was asked to go
The gas man not allowed
We meet the medic
With the devil in his hand.
The smile of death was in his head
As he administered midazolam
Plus the last rites into those –
Who in their dread
In their prostrate stranglehold
Struggled no more,
The Lord’s work for sure
Yup the comfort of only doing what is right
With God on your side
You can drug the murderer outta sight.
With The Move drumming out its sound
I’m a California Man
We swing our journey to the Golden State
Lifting the murky carpet high
We have the electric date
Of – let’s see ‘em when they fry.
The love and peace of Frisco
Seems like a pathetic disco
Where the decks have exploded
The discs were made of ice
Sizzle ye your citizens
But not at all very nice
For although God is on your side
It’s the other side you have to abide
Listen not ye to duty’s fame
Watch out for damnation’s flame
As you – American kill off the lame
Electrocute gas hang shoot shoot up
Unrelenting God’s work
Revenge, bathing in blood
The downfall of empires
Sent from above.
You who have killed love
You who drink the blood
You who deny the spirit
Your rewards are centuries away,
You reap only what you sew
Watch out when you go
For you’re dealing in death
Won’t let you go
Your duty to the State
Will diminish your own fate
You will return to this Earth
Stay here till you have learnt
The wisdom and love
Of the Universe
Not getting out of the plane
As we touch down again
In the middle of Arizona desert
For all I can see through the sweat
Are plateaus, sand and blazing skies
I’m bored by the red and blue
But I’m buoyed by the coming hue
That reflects the ancient eyes.
Oh Arizona!
Your Indian braves
Your men and women of fame
Have a pocketful of stars
Give us this day our daily blame
Forgive us our stupidity
As we forgive those
That are stupid towards us
And lead us not into execution
Deliver us from duty
For thine is the kingdom
The Power and the glory
Forever and ever
For all men.

this is a poem about Willie Leroy Jones who was electrocuted for the murders of Graham and Myra Adkins in their Charles City home. He knew the Adkins couple, who were in their late 70s, through their son. For more about this go to https://murderpedia.org/male.J/j1/jones-willie-leroy.htm#google_vignette

Time Better Spent

I grasp the hands of the clock and bend them into shape
To resemble, eventually, quality time better spent,
The outlines of time don’t trouble me, but is it meant
To be a kind of security, surrounded by a high fence?
Do I lend the time to anyone – is it a gift I can give?
Many hours I have spent in a kind of dull suspension
Where time does not require any kind of attention.
I look at my watch but gradually there’s no ticking
I have not noticed it because the ticks are echoing,
The hands pretend to be moving, so imagine the shock
To see they are stationary, so where do I go from here?

I grasp each minute and quickly question every second
I can’t be wasting my time this way it makes no sense,
For the time does not come around for another turn
It arrives, it displays and it is then gone, there’s no return.
Realising the nature of time and its indifference to clocks
Is like discovering the reality of gravity using hard rocks,
There are times that I wished I had never experienced;
But there is no way of unwrapping the consequences
Of times that do harm, that represent uncalled for action,
There are times when I hear words I do not want to know
I can’t undo time – I’m resigned to go with the easy flow.

Thought So

Don’t be small
Lift thine eyes
To the heavens
Give the world its due
Dig a space in
Which you can dwell.
Lifting the hand
To shield the sun
From the heart
Sifting the years
Through the fingers
Like dirt or dust
Drifting as the clock
Slides towards the edge
Going to the temple
Of the mind
Seated upon a ledge
That hangs over
A space between
Your mind and mine.

This Is No Dream

I’m like some old steam engine shunted into a railway siding,
Or an old favourite book left lying on the shelf dust gathering.
I’m in solid sorrow for being, once again, the forgotten one,
Going from being the expected one, to being the nothing someone.

Now I am a relic sitting in the basement of a museum,
Like a once popular music album, that had everyone dancing
But is now buried on the bottom of a pile of old vinyls,
No longer played, no longer touched, ignored and out of style.

I’m like a shrivelled orange sat in a glass bowl in a cupboard,
It shapes my heart into a battered over used and old dartboard.
I no longer walk, like I used to, along the countryside paths,
For I have lost the meaning of this dream along with my innocence.

Think In Shapes

Think in shapes and tapwater dreams,
Sparkling yonder a triangle of jealousy;
Make typewriter paints and puddles out of streams
Horizontal roads and octagonal agonies
Leave square staring eyes.
Watch yourself, because you’re thinking in shapes.

Shapes appear and you lose them again….

Think of circles with arcs and diameters
When you see a sun drift into a cloud
Radius of sunbeam and sunlight radiates
Rectangular strength, the lies are to be boxed in.

Shapes disappear, you are not lost forever
But you have to think them again before they reappear …

Think cones within cones and conical spires
Brickwork interlarded with mercury mortar
Not for strengthening – more for show
Lean the vertical at right angles
But never let yourself be as slow.

Shapes evaporate, steady and recreate
Change form and celebrate
For in them there is the thought procession.
